SWP (gloves on to read, as it is from the Sun)

I had thought that the Spurs deal was pretty much a certainty, but the Sun story is clearly directly from Kenyon - and indicates a reluctance to sell to Spuds in particlular. Effectively, I think, he is signalling to City and Villa that the auction is still open. SWP himself has in the past been distinctly cold about either of these two clubs, but perhaps a few months reflection may have cleared his mind?

COMMENT ON THIS STORY

CHELSEA are trying to freeze out Tottenham in their attempt to land Shaun Wright-Phillips.

Spurs have tabled an £11million bid and the winger is keen to link up with boss Martin Jol.

But Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon hopes to avoid selling as he believes Spurs will become title rivals in future seasons.

And, over the last week, Kenyon has refused to take calls from White Hart Lane officials hoping to complete a deal.

Aston Villa have tried to sign Wright-Phillips, 25, with Manchester City and West Ham also interested."
