I just posted a comment in another thread containing the phrase, "if we are going to mount a serious title challenge." It seems that we are assembling a squad which could do that. But is that our aim this season, or are we happy to achieve a CL spot and maybe a trophy? For me, anything less than that would represent a lack of progress compared to last season and I'd regard a lack of progress as failure (I think the Sheik would too), but we've spent a few bob, bought in some decent players - how far can we kick on?
Obviously we should be trying to win every competition we are in, that's the point of playing - what would people regard as satisfactory progress this season, given where we were, given who we have bought, and given that it's likely we haven't quite finished in the transfer market?
Having asked the question I should give an answer - the minimum to demonstrate progress would be a top 4 finish I guess, but given that we only just missed out on that last season and have strengthened whilst those around us so far haven't, I'd really like to see more than that. I'm looking for a top 3 finish and a cup final.
Can't believe I've just said that about City. And we have an :iron: and I haven't used it.
